Dr. Manel Ribas

Director of the Hip Surgery Unit at the Dexeus University Hospital

In 1985 Dr. Manel Ribas launched the Bone Bank of the Dexeus University Hospital in Barcelona, one of the oldest and with the most experience in Europe. He performed the first meniscus explantation and transplantation in one knee in Spain in 1999.

After passing through the Mayo Clinic in Rochester-Minnesota, he introduced femoroacetabular impingement or impingement surgery in Spain and developed his own mini-invasive technique that today is one of the most accepted in Europe and America and is known for its own name.

He was a pioneer in the implantation of hip surface prostheses in Spain in young adults. He has participated in more than 300 scientific papers around the world and more than 200 medical publications. He has obtained various awards in the field of Traumatology, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.

He belongs to more than 23 scientific societies in Spain, and his patients include well-known elite athletes both in Spain and in the rest of Europe.
Director of the Bone Bank and Bone Transplant Unit of the Dexeus University Institute, more than 1500 interventions have been carried out in this field.

Dr. Ribas is a founder member of the European Association of Tissue Banks, and Member of the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) of the United States of America.
